Issue:
How do I disable the "Use Overlays" setting in Windows Media Player?

Solution:
To disable the "Use Overlays" setting in Windows Media Player (WMP):

  1. Launch Windows Media Player.  If the menus in WMP are hidden (hiding the menus is an option in WMP), right mouse click in the WMP title bar and select the option "Show Menu Bar."
  2. Select the "Tools" menu.
  3. Select the "Options" menu item.
  4. Select the "Performance" tab of the "Options" dialog.Click the "Advanced" button.
  5. In the "Video Acceleration" area, uncheck the "Use overlays" check box.
  6. Close Windows Media Player

If the problem continues, try turning off the video mixing renderer (VMR). You can turn off the VMR by clearing the Use video mixing renderer check box, available in the same location as the Use overlays check box.
